Tour Itinerary

 Chelela trek is new and short trek through forest of pine, rhododendrons and fir, passes and meadow. The trek stars from Haa (western Bhutan) and ends at chelela Pass, the highest road point pass in Bhutan. The trek is for three days. The altitude ranges from 2750-4350M with scenic view of Himalayan ranges, including jumolhari peak. The highest pass for the trek is Kunkarpo pass, 4350m.

The fight to Paro crosses the Himalayan Mountains, affording spectacular views of the awesome peaks, including the sacred jumolhari and jichu Drake in Bhutan On arrival in Paro  Airport, you will be received by our guide and transfer to restaurant for lunch . After lunch, you will visit the Rinpung Dzong, the 15th century massive fortress which now serves as administrative and monastic center of the valley. From the Dzong, you can walk down to the road head crossing a traditional wooden bridge. After that you will be taken to Kichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and the most sacred temple built in 7th century. In the evening, you can stroll in Paro town.

 

Today, you will hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery, Bhutan’s most famous monastery, which located at face of the cliff( 3100m) offering the best view of Paro valley. According to the legend, it is believed that Guru Rinpoche, the 8th century Spiritual Master, flew to this location on the back of a tigress to meditate. Lunch will be served at Cafeteria Restaurant halfway up on the mountain. Explore the monastery and hike back to Paro. Overnight in hotel

6 Km, 3-4 hours, Ascent 450m, Camp altitude 3150m

After breakfast, we will drive to Haa valley via Chele La pass. Meet our trekking crews and begin our trek along an unpaved road for less than hour. We will be taking the footpath trails on the right side of the village, which will lead us to a gradual ascend in the forest of Rhododendrons, fir and Hemlock.  yak herder’s camp and make our final climb toward Sagala pass. Our camp is just below the pass at 3,150m. Overnight in camp.

 

9 Km, 6 hours, 700m Ascent, Camp altitude 3850m

Today after breakfast, the trail towards the left goes to the summer yak herding camp and to the border of China. The trail ascents for 30 minutes, we will reach the Sagala Pass (3,550m). On the day with clear weather, we will have a magnificent view of Mt. Jumolhari and Jichu Drake. From pass follow  the right side of the trail. After several ascents and descents on a trail through rhododendrons and meadows, we will finally reach the top of a ridge at 4,100meters from where we will catch 360 view of Himalayan range and Haa valley. We will again involve occasional ascents and descents through forest of hemlock and juniper till we reach to our camp. Overnight in camp.

9 Km, 6 hours, 700m Ascent, Camp altitude 3850m

We will start walking downhill for few minutes on the ridge through meadows and yak herders camp. We will then climb uphill through the forest of tall rhododendrons tress, meadows adorned with stone cairns to Kung karpo Pass (4,350m). From here we will be walking up and down with panoramic view of Paro valley on the left and Haa valley on the right till we reach Chelela Pass at 3,990m. Our car will be waiting here to transfer us to Thimphu.Overnight hotel in Thimphu.

Today, we will visit Kings Memorial Stupa, built by Late Queen mother Azhi Phuntsho Choden in 1974. Then visit giant Buddha Statue, one of the largest Buddha statues in the world located on the mountain overlooking Thimphu valley. Drive to Punakha, stop at Dochulapass(3150m) with stunning view of Himalayan range. Drive down hill through the forest of Rhododendrons, fir and hemlock.   . After lunch continue drive to Punakha, on arrival, visit Punakha Dzong, which is the most beautiful Dzong in Bhutan. Overnight in hotel.

After breakfast, you can hike through rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang( temple of fertility). Drive back to Thimphu via Dochula pass. Lunch will be served in Thimphu. Then continue drive to Paro. You can visit Archery playing ground, where locals are plays traditionally.  Overnight in Paro

After breakfast, drive to airport for flight to onward destination. Our representative will bid you farewell .
