Mountain biking or cycling in Bhutan is a bit more adventurous and a pleasurable trip than most other tour activities because of its rugged terrain and peaceful roads. You can cycle on the hilly with zig-zag motor roads or there are several new off-road biking trails being developed which makes Bhutan a vibrant destination for mountain biking enthusiasts.

Or you can join a serious biking race which is one of the most popular biking trips known as the “Tour of the Dragon” that runs more than 260 km in a day from central to western Bhutan or the capital city, Thimphu. This one-day adventurous cycling trip/race is normally organized in the mid-fall. The best seasons for biking and cycling trips in Bhutan are in the mid-late spring, and then in the mid-fall.

 

As the flight nears Bhutan, you can enjoy amazing views of the Himalayas including the sacred Jomolhari and Jichu Drake peaks. At the airport, you will be greeted by our guide and you will be taken to restaurant for lunch. After lunch, sightseeing in Paro or Biking adventure to Drukgyal Dzong (Total 25 km). Overnight in Paro.

After breakfast, you can ride uphill till Chele la Pass,35km. The pass is dotted with colorful Buddhist prayer flags offers stunning views of Mount Jumolhari and other mountains and beautiful Paro and Haa valley. From here ride downhill, (26km) from pass  through the forests of blue pine, fir and oak. Drive downhill from pass through the forests of blue pine, fir and oak. The road good for riding as there is hardly traffic. Upon arrival visit to Temple Karpo(white). Then continue riding in Haa velley. Overnight in Haa.

After breakfast you will ride till Chuzom (confluence), 80km(3-4 hours). For an hour you will follow south of Haa river through many settlements with less traffic. Arrives at Chuzom (confluence), the confluence of Paro and Thimphu rivers. We will stop here and see local farmers aside the road selling vegetables, fruits and dried chillies. You will  Drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Evening stroll in the city and absorb the lifestyle of people. Overnight in Thimphu.

After breakfast, you will ride from Semtokha to Dochula Pass (3,100m), 26km. If the weather is clear you will be able to enjoy superb views of the high Himalayan mountain including Gangkarpuensum(7560m) peaks. Here you can explore 108 stupas. You will ride downhill till Punakha, 55 km (2-3 hours). The wide and pleasant road with switch backs will make you more fun and interesting. Time permits visit Punakha Dzong and Chimi Lhakhang(Fertility Temple. Overnight in Punakha.

Today we will ride to beautiful Phobjikha valley. We will stop in Wangdue to get a glimpse of Wangdue Phodrang Dzong that dramatically sits on the ridge .We will continue our ride uphill through dense forests of oak and rhododendrons till Lawala pass(3250m). The pass offers exotic views of the Himalayan Mountains. From here ride becomes easy downhill. After 30 munites, the stunning views of Gangtey Goenpa and Phobjikha Valley.If time permits you will visit Gangtey Goenpa the only Nyingmapa monastery in western Bhutan. Overnight in Gangtey

Following breakfast, ride till Lhawala Pass (3250m). From here further uphill till Pelela Pass (3350m). If we are fortunate we will see stunning Himalayan Mountains. From here you will enjoy riding downhill passing through beautiful villages and arrive at Trongsa, 68 km (3-4 hours). Overnight in Trongsa.

In the morning we will visit Trongsa Dzong. It is the ancestral home of our Royal family. We will drive till Yotong La Pass (3,400m) from here you can ride till Chumey Valley, 30 km (2-3 hours). Then we will stop at Chumey, Yathra Factory. Where we can see live Yathras are designed with different patterns.  The spectacular winding road through blue pine forest will give our rider immense fun. Continue ride or your comfortable car to Bumthang. Overnight in Bumthang.

After breakfast you will ride to Ura Valley located at 3,100m. You will hike in the Ura village. You can visit farm houses, interact and enjoy a cup of Yak Butter Tea. After hot pack lunch, you will ride back to Bumthang town. Evening you can Explore town and meet with local people.

Today drive back to Wangdue. En route, we will stop at Chengdebji Chorten which was built in the 18th century by Lama Shida in Nepalese style with eyes painted at four cardinal points. After lunch, continue drive to Wangdue. Overnight in Wangdue. (Option-for ride from Yotongla La Pass till Trongsa and Pelela to Wangdue ride till Wangdue. (Distance-60km).

After breakfast you will drive to Paro. From Dochula pass ride till Simtokha. En route in Thimphu, visit  Memorial stupa, built in the memory of our 3rd king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Buddha Point, newly built bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni measuring 169 feet and known for the tallest statue in the world. Evening drive to Paro. Overnight in Paro.

Today, you will hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery, Bhutan’s most famous monastery, which located at face of the cliff( 3100m) offering the best view of Paro valley. According to the legend, it is believed that Guru Rinpoche, the 8th century Spiritual Master, flew to this location on the back of a tigress to meditate. Lunch will be served at Cafeteria Restaurant halfway up on the mountain. Explore the monastery and hike back to Paro. Overnight in hotel

 

After breakfast, you will drive to the airport for departure. Our representative will bid you farewell.
